In 2022, Grayson Dyer started this company by purchasing some basic window cleaning equipment from Ace Hardware. The equipment was sub-par and non-professional, but it got the job done. He learned sales skills, business knowledge, customer communication, and the trade itself by knocking on doors and closing deals face to face.
This initial revenue allowed for reinvestment in better equipment and more efficient processes. At a certain point, Grayson decided to officially brand his company as Window Cleaning Bay Area. He purchased company shirts, got a truck decal, and built a basic website. He also created digital profiles on Instagram, Facebook, and Nextdoor.
It was Nextdoor that brought the most success early on. Grayson went from hustling door-to-door to creating posts and receiving reviews that naturally turned viewers into customers. Instead of chasing work, the work started coming to him.
Throughout the summer, Grayson operated the business with a friend, completing jobs from Nextdoor and collecting steady revenue. Eventually, he invested in a water-fed pole system — a game-changer for the brand. This professional system allowed windows to be cleaned perfectly without squeegees or ladders.
Not only did this equipment improve safety, but it also increased efficiency, enabling more jobs per day while maintaining quality. As the summer ended and Grayson prepared for his senior year of high school, business operations slowed down for the season.
When the window cleaning season picked up again, Grayson was ready to continue building his business. The challenge, however, was that he was still a senior at Los Gatos High School. Running a growing company while balancing classes was difficult. There were days when he skipped school to complete jobs or attend quotes.
Truthfully, he had a passion and dream for entrepreneurship. School often got in the way of that dream, and when it came to choosing between class and clients, the business came first.
Around this time, Grayson began running Instagram and Facebook Ads to acquire new customers. His first digital campaigns saw strong results, and the revenue generated was reinvested into more ads, fueling growth and allowing him to make his first hires.
He quickly learned the strategies required to attract attention online and present a professional digital image that converted viewers into paying clients. During school hours, he would frequently step out to take sales calls, close deals, and schedule jobs.
By the end of his senior year, Grayson had a calendar fully booked with jobs months in advance. But the workload was overwhelming. Managing sales, marketing, scheduling, field work, and customer communication led to burnout. He needed a structure that separated the business side from the labor side.
This led to the development of a clear hierarchy:
Each employee signs off on policies, expectations, and responsibilities tailored to their role. For example, while crew leaders ensure work is done correctly and policies are followed, technicians are expected to perform their assigned tasks with precision.
This structure, combined with a focus on training, gave Grayson the ability to grow the business without having to bear the full weight of daily labor himself.
"Employees are always looking for more hours. By putting more money into labor, I was able to exponentially grow my business because I had more time to work on things of higher value. For example, sales & customer communication.
At the end of July 2025, Grayson invested in a commercial-grade pressure washing skid for one of the work trucks. This opened the door for a stronger focus on both commercial and residential pressure washing.
With the addition of the commercial pressure washing skid, Window Cleaning Bay Area officially expanded into a dedicated pressure washing division. The employee hierarchy, policies, and systems remained consistent but were adapted to the new service line.
Each employee was required to study for and pass the “Pressure Washing Operator” test. Strict safety measures were implemented to protect both properties and employees. This equipment upgrade positioned the company to take on larger projects and transition from primarily residential window cleaning to a broader mix of residential and commercial services.
2026 will mark a major milestone for Window Cleaning Bay Area. It will be our first full year of operations without the challenge of balancing school, allowing for full dedication to growth. It will also be the first year running a completely new service division with massive potential.
While California’s environmental regulations can make pressure washing more challenging to scale, these same regulations reduce competition. This creates a prime opportunity for Window Cleaning Bay Area to establish itself as a leader in this sector.
Watch our journey closely — soon, we will become the premier commercial and residential exterior maintenance company in California.
